Not scanning directory

hello. i have been using for some time and has worked great until today. i have a folder called tvshows. in that folder are the shows that record from hdhomerun to folders of each show. buddy doesnt recongnise the subfolders. i have check subfolders but it doesnt. if i manualy add the folder foe each show it works. nothing was changed except uodating to latest release. i tried reverting back but not finding new shows. i have checked read only files that didnt work. dont know what else to try.

Open your MCEBuddy.log file and search for a filename in the sub directory and see what’s going on.

mcebuddy.log (36.9 KB)

It searches the folders of the shows not like this C:\tvshows\

would be like c:\tvshows\the voice\season 1

there are multiple under tvshows. like i said its stupid simple to set this up. out of know where when i updated it started to give me issues. i tried clean install and not working…

The last line on your log tell you the issue:

ERROR> 2019-11-25T21:31:13 MCEBuddy.Engine.QueueManager → Unable to search for files in location D:\TVShows for monitor task Windows Default
ERROR : The specified path, file name, or both are too long. The fully qualified file name must be less than 260 characters, and the directory name must be less than 248 characters.

Windows is throwing this error when trying to read your folders. Either there are to many sub directories or your filesystem is corrupted.

There’s no limitation within MCEBuddy. We’ve tested the setup with 500,000 files spread across 25 sub directories and it works fine. You need open mcebuddy.log and look for specific file names and monitor locations to see what’s going on, if there are errors or warnings from windows of if your filters aren’t matching etc.

Are you seeing the same error within the log file about windows throwing an error about the path length?

I guess that how my issue differs… I start the process and nothing happen (ie… No list of videos being processed… it’s blank)…

To avoid send the whole log… here are the last few lines…

The dashes above and below I added to set it aside from the rest.. That’s where the log repeats for each new file… The files being processed screen is blank… I have a Ryzen 7 with a Nvidia 3060 GPU…

I copied this from mcebuddy.log after a reset of the service… Since no files have processed there are no other logs…

Of all the folder name I got directly from torrent download.. “All in the family…” is the longest… Here’s inside…

Got some follow-up!!!

I gave my “Switch Filebot to run before MCE Buddy” idea a try and it works ok… So there must by something in those crappy long filenames that was giving Buddy an issue.

MCE Buddy gets a cleaned up Filebot named video and everything runs OK… MCEB’s processing screen now has files!!!

I’m using the AMC functionality out of Filebot to produce a Plex directory structure and naming convention. Below is a directory listing of the videos rec’v by MCEB…

I hope all this info helps… I’ve fix my problem, but I thought you would like the details for further consideration…

Duane

Here’s the last screen shot…

We’ve seen this error in the past. There is a powershell script in the solution of this post to help identify the files.

Here is a Microsoft article explaining the limitation and potential workarounds.
