Custom Cuts not adding video to the bottom of the queue

NOTE: Don’t forget to attach your logs & samples as appropriate

When using custom cuts and choosing “Process with MCEBuddy” the file is added to the top of the queue instead of the bottom of the queue.

How to Duplicate:
Start/Open MCEBuddy
Click “Start”

Start/Open Custom Cuts
Open a Video
Mark Cut Sections
Click “Save EDL”
Click “Process with MCEBuddy”
First video added to the top of the queue

In MCEBuddy the first video will start processing. While it’s still processing follow the process again to add the next video.

Open Second Video
Mark Cut Sections
Click “Save EDL”
Click “Process with MCEBuddy”
Second video added to the top of the queue

In MCEBuddy the queue will now have the first video still processing and will show the second video below the first waiting to be processed (next in the queue):

Queue looks like this:

  1. First Video - Processing2.
  2. Second Video - Waiting to be processed

Follow the process again to add the third video.

Open Third Video
Mark Cut Sections
Click “Save EDL”
Click “Process with MCEBuddy”

In MCEBuddy the queue will now have the first video still processing and the third video will be next to be processed and the second video will now be at the bottom of the queue.

Queue looks like this:

  1. First Video - Processing
  2. Third Video - Waiting to be processed
  3. Second Video - Waiting to be processed

Is that expected behavior? The wording in the settings and the manual makes it sound like things should be added to the bottom of the queue unless you click the advanced setting option to have them be added to the top of the queue, but maybe I am misunderstanding it?

It depends on how you’re using custom cuts. If you clicking the Process with MCEBuddy button after making the cuts, then yes, that’s the expected behavior.

That’s because when you click the button essentially you’re pushing the video to be processed by MCEBuddy on a priority basis (it’s kind of like using the Add button in MCEBuddy to process a file). This put the file ahead of other files in the queue (i.e top of the queue).

If you want the new files to be added to the bottom of the queue, the right way to that would be to have MCEBuddy monitor a folder. In custom cuts instead of pressing the button to Process with MCEBuddy, press the Save EDL button and save your cuts to the EDL file. Now move the original video and the EDL file to the folder which is being monitoring by MCEBuddy. MCEBuddy will pick up that new file (and the corresponding EDL cuts) when it next checks the directory for new file to process and add them to the bottom of the queue.

If you would like to propose a change to the setup / instructions, do let us know your feedback about it and we’ll happy to consider it.

Thank you for that explanation! That is great information and exactly what I needed to know. Now that I understand it better (I had never thought to have a different folder monitored just for custom cuts, so that is brilliant), I don’t have any suggestions for improvement at all. It makes perfect sense to make it a priority when pushing from custom cuts, so thank you again!

Okay, we’ve made it easier so you don’t need to guess what the buttons do and how it works (can see how it can be confusing). With today’s 2.6.6 beta build we’ve added two separate buttons. One which sends the file to the top of the queue and the other which sends the file to the bottom of the queue. Try it out and let us know your feedback (functionality and intuitiveness).

And we’ve added a few more features, you can now invoke custom cuts directly from windows explorer by right clicking on a file and also from the mcebuddy queue by right clicking on the file.

This way you can make manual adjustments to file waiting in the queue, once the cuts are ready, just save the EDL file (no need to click the button to send to MCEBuddy) without having the file lose it’s original place in the queue. When the time comes, the file and it’s EDL file will be picked by MCEBuddy to cut/convert.
