There are many other types of cyber crime that impact both businesses and consumers, including cryptocurrency investment schemes, identity theft, non-payment or non-delivery of merchandise ordered online, credit card fraud, computer intrusions, corporate data breaches, and denial of service website attacks.
Please file a report with IC3.gov even if you’re unsure of whether your complaint or report qualifies as a cyber crime.
I am unsure, and I think it may be, under non-delivery of merchandise ordered online. I just want what was promised to me for my online payment!

They are so sure that they will get away with this action that they are not even replying to the BBB complaints that are being sent to them. They don’t have to, per the BBB, because the BBB is not a government entity. hint.hint.
be well, B
My 2 cents, I’m not happy about the situation. Does it suck? Yeah but after reading their terms they can do it. Was it a good choice, probably not.
As far as filing a complaint on IC3 (or elsewhere) keep in mind that knowingly filing a false complaint is a felony. You’ve been using the product that you paid for - yeah they changed their terms, but claiming that they didn’t deliver the product is fraudulent and could be a crime in itself because you still have access to the product and probably still using it.
Frankly I don’t see how this is any different than me purchasing a license for Windows 7 and down the line Microsoft says sorry we aren’t going to provide any more updates for Windows 7, purchase a new license for Windows 10 if you want new features and updates. You can continue using Windows 7 for as long as you want, you just won’t get any updates. From what I understand you can continue using your installed version of mcebuddy for as long as you want, unlike many other software which completely cut you off once the license expires.
Personally, I’ve gotten more than my moneys worth over the years but I wish they had handled the change better. All said and done they’re a small business and not a large corporation, to give credit where it’s due, the devs have done a great job in supporting this product and the email with the discount for existing customers was a nice touch.
The difference is that Microsoft doesn’t tell you that your windows license is a one-time purchase with access to the latest updates / builds. In fact, they are very clear on their product life cycle.
MCEBuddy on the other hand did make that claim.
Calling it a “fake claim” to say they did not deliver their product, that’s just silly. They said clearly that it was for all future updates.
As for how you feel personally about being lied to, who cares? You were still lied to along with the rest of us. If you are willing to just take it, that’s fine, but why try to justify MCEBuddy ripping people off?
Yes, in fact they did it and I quote [“Right now we’re releasing Windows 10, and because Windows 10 is the last version of Windows, we’re all still working on Windows 10.” That was the message from Microsoft employee Jerry Nixon a developer evangelist speaking at the company’s Ignite conference this week.]
A public comment stated at a public Microsoft conference by an employee who was speaking on Microsoft’s behalf that Windows 10 was the last version of windows that would be continued to be updated over time… Well look where that has us… anyone? Windows 11 is now out and costs money to purchase, awesome, just awesome…
So regardless of prior public statements it appears largely that all corporations can kindly lie outright to their customers and/or change their minds as long as TOS/License agreements are written correctly.
That being said I would heed @HunnyPuppy 's advice and be careful how far you push things as it sounds like it will more than likely come back to bite you.
There is also the other option make MCEBuddy 2.x.x whatever the last version of MCEBuddy and the program is now EOL and then launch “MCEPal” 1.x.x which looks identical to MCEBuddy but with some slight improvements… Much like Playon did with Playon “Desktop” which had a lifetime license that has now transitioned to Playon “Home”… They look identical and function identically yet they now have a new name so technically isn’t the same product so you get to pay for it again… Yay, the customer still gets screwed.
I prefer the fact that MCEBuddy had the backbone to be honest about the situation up front compared to Playon, could it have been handled better? 100% it could have been of but that being said it won’t change what has happened/is happening as the other two wonderful corporations already proved both methods are entirely valid and legal if not crumby/crappy for the customer.
Microsoft never officially stated that there would never be another windows, that was an employee speaking out of turn essentially.
Second, if you do believe they said that, then take it up with them, it has nothing to do with MCEBuddy, or the lies they said, and we can prove they said.
That being said I would heed @HunnyPuppy 's advice and be careful how far you push things as it sounds like it will more than likely come back to bite you.
Why are you trying to scare people away from taking action on the matter? Class action lawsuits are typically free to the people who bring forward the claim.
There is also a difference between filing a false claim knowingly and filing a claim which is determined not to hold water. So again, what’s with trying to scare people out of taking action?
They were not honest, you are assigning credit to people who started off their relationship with you on a lie.
Well with Windows 7 still working on my old machine with HDhomerun and Comcast I was using MECbuddy. Now have a New Windows 11 testing it with Lifetime PLEX which has commercial removal or skipping everything is perfect PROBABLY better if I had to be asked that question. Good BYE MCEBuddy services are no longer needed. Found another Lifetime package.
I guess MCEbuddy thinks they are like Microsoft how many ways can you milk a cow differently? At least PLEX lifetime gives you 10 times more than what you paid for compared to the old days of MCE
