Converted file larger than original h.264

I’m running into the same issue described here (ie output mkv files much larger than input files). I attempted to try the proposed fix of removing the -preset meduim in the profiles.conf but that line doesn’t exist on mine. I’m trying to use the mkv high quality profile. I also tried the MKV normal profile and the files were still a lot larger.

Any help would be much appreciated!!

Moving this to a new topic. You’re using a h.264 profile and not h.265 (which was the previous topic).

Your issue stems from a bug in your Intel graphics driver. The graphics driver is creating a video with 88Mbps bitrate after conversion which is why your file size is so large

MCEBuddy.AppWrapper.Handbrake → [08:52:46] + encoder: H.264 (Intel Media SDK)

Original file size [KB] 15,343,636.00
2024-06-29T09:45:12 MCEBuddy.Transcode.ConvertWithHandbrake → Finished video conversion, file size [KB] 91,636,222.00

Use on these two options to fix your issue:

  1. Change your Intel graphics driver to a more stable version
  2. Disable hardware accelerated encoding in MCEBuddy conversion task → expert settings
