Anybody know how to remove ads from Tubi using Comskip?

I can’t seemt to figure out how to remove ads from Tubi. Tried messing with ComSkip INI files but still no go. Anybody got this figured out? Thanks!

Can you elaborate which comskip ini files have you used? Can you upload a copy of the original video with the ads so we can see what’s going on. The recording sources shouldn’t matter at all, you just need to tweak the ad detection.

Have you tried using ShowAnalyzer instead of Comskip to detect commercials in the Conversion task settings. Many folks have found that to be more effective than Comskip at certain types of recordings.

Thanks for the quick reply @Goose. I will try using ShowAnalyzer to see if it makes a difference. If that doesn’t pan out, I will then upload the video file although I was using PlayOn to record the video off Tubi, and it contains some personal info at the start of the video – which I wouldn’t want to make “semi-public”. If I upload the video, can you guys quickly download it and remove it from the FTP server?

Thanks again for your help!

Update:
OK I tried ShowAnalyzer and that didn’t work at all either. Here’s an idea – if I upload a snippet of the whole movie, say 15 minutes where there are commercials somewhere in that time frame, will that work for you guys to troubleshoot? I can use a video editor to provide a snippet.

We would need the whole video ideally. Commercial placements, pre and post content also make a difference to the detection process. You could upload the video a cloud drive and DM me the link privately.

OK I just sent you a link via DM. Thanks!

How are you acquiring the Tubi movies? Are you recording the screen as some app (browser, Tubi app) plays the movie?

Using Playon.tv cloud recording service. Not sure how their cloud service does it on the back end of things.

I had a look and it appears that your recodings have advertisements markers embedded into the mp4 file which MCEBuddy is using instead of running Comkip.

INFORMATION> 2025-08-21T23:08:22 MCEBuddy.Engine.ConversionJob → Checking for Advertisement Chapter Markers
→ PlaylaterAdMarkertoEDL: Cut segment Start:5957.512 Stop:6843.738

If you don’t want it to use the embedded chapter markers and use Comskip instead, turn off that option in the Conversion task → Expert settings → Subtitle and Chapters → Check chapters for Ad markers

Thank you for so much for the analysis @Goose ! So I assume this also means I can use those markers to my advantage right? I went ahead and changed my Ad Remover to “Yes (Use markers)” and in Expert Settings I kept the “Check chapters for Ad markers” checked (enabled) and then I ran MCEBuddy on the video again and two interesting things happened:

  1. Unfortunately the first ad was not removed at all, but other ads were
  2. The video also massively downsized from 2.69GB to 876MB – seems strange

Any suggestions? Thanks!

If you open the log files and look through it you’ll find what’s going on. Search for .edl and it’ll show you what’s being cut and if something’s being skipped then why (e.g. it’s too short) etc.

As for the size, it depends on your conversion profile settings (codec bitrate etc)
