Subject: Suggestion: Backup Option for mcebuddy.conf Similar to Profiles.conf
I’ve found it very useful to relocate profiles.conf to a cloud-backed folder for redundancy and version control. It would be great to have a similar option for mcebuddy.conf - unless there’s already a tool or method I’m unaware of?
I understand that mcebuddy.conf is backed up during uninstall, but I’ve run into cases where the backup fails, possibly due to insufficient privileges. Your install guide also notes that newer versions of MCEBuddy may modify or improve this file, and that simply overwriting it with an older backup isn’t recommended.
That makes sense — preserving compatibility and improvements is important. But perhaps a small utility could help merge manual edits from the old config into the new one? For example, extracting everything below [GUI_History] and appending it to a fresh mcebuddy.conf would preserve user-specific settings without overwriting system-level changes.
Would love to hear if others have tackled this or if there’s a best practice I’m missing.
